An Overview of Standards

These are published documents to ensure the reliability of the materials, products, methods, and/or services.  These guidelines are suggested requirements, specifications, characteristics, and/or procedures. They are created by consensus process and approved by various national and international agencies, professional societies, or industry organizations. Standards are the minimally accepted professional practice and/or quality that must be observed.
