About Jenano Research Group

The JENano group is a research group founded in 2017 at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. This team of academics. Lead by Professor Tien-Chien Jen, has dedicated itself to researching and applying innovative processes in the manufacturing market as well as others. Through its research with both local and international applications, JENano strives to both understand novel processes and introduce them to new areas and countries. Although the group studies various fields, it focuses on nanotechnology and related processes (e.g.atomic layer deposition (ALD), cold gas dynamic spray (CGDS), machining (heat pipe and manufacturing fields), renewable energy and engineering (solar, geothermal, hydrogen and hydro energy), and more.

The JENano group has research in various engineering fields such as: heat & mass transfer, renewable energy, manufacturing, mechanical design, molecular dynamics, chemical kinetics, surface modelling, prototype modelling, and experimental methodology, among other.

Research Group Leader

Prof. Tien-Chien Jen

The leader of the research team and supervisor too all the projects.

Professor Jen has obtained he’s PhD in 1993 in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles. Among his many accomplishments he was also the Dean of the College of Engineering, UAA in 2013-2014.

Presently he is the Director of the Manufacturing Research Center. A professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering Science, University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and a guest Professor at Shandong University, Chongqing University and Anhui Agriculture University, China.

Professor Jen has written a total of 198 peer-reviewed papers, including 83 peer-reviewed journal papers, published in many prestigious journals such as, International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, ASME Journal of Mechanical Design and ASME Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering. He also is the proud author of 5 chapter papers published in various books. Intrinsically, developing an Atomic Layer Deposition Book with Co-Author Rigardt A.M. Coetzee.
