The University of Johannesburg Library will be holding a colloquium on The Fourth Industrial Revolution and Library Practices in South Africa, on Friday 19 October 2018.As we currently stand on the edge of a technological revolution that will alter the way we live, work, and relate to one another, this revolution will be unlike anything anyone has experienced before. We do not know as yet how it will unfold, but what we do know for sure is that the response to this change must be integrated and comprehensive, involving all stakeholders of the global polity, from the public and private sectors to academia and civil society. As the Library is the heartbeat of any academic institution, it has to examine its roles and its practices continually. Are our students ready for this new technological era? It is for this reason that the University of Johannesburg’s Library is hosting a colloquium to tease out its role in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and how we as Libraries can embrace this change.
We would like to reach out to schools, public libraries, private libraries, and corporate libraries to attend this colloquium and to create a platform on the way forward for libraries and their users in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
