A hearty welcome to you! This is your preliminary source of information and guidance as you begin or continue with your research journey. Doing research involves a step-by-step process to gather information as you write your paper, thesis or dissertation. As you progress from one step to the next, it is commonly necessary to consult a Librarian and the resources available in the UJ Libraries. The research process itself involves identifying and locating relevant information, analyzing what you found, and then developing and expressing your ideas. The purpose of this Library Research Navigator is to direct you to the different Library resources (including from other stakeholders) and services you will need during your research journey.
The research process is often cyclical although your journey might not follow the order that is outlined on the tabs of this guide.
The Library Research Navigator is made up of 7 destinations as outlined on the tabs above. Each destination provides information on a specific stage of the research process and helps you map out paths throughout your research journey. Largely, the research process involves identifying and locating relevant information, analyzing what you found and then developing and expressing your ideas. Additional information about you and your supervisor, as well as useful Library resources, are included in the Library Research Navigator. Click on the tabs above to start your navigation. Good luck, and please note that the Librarians are there to help you at each research destination. See the contact your Librarian tab.
