Celebrating Freedom Day: Honoring Our Journey to Democracy

On April 27th, we celebrate Freedom Day, a landmark moment in South Africa’s history—the day when all citizens, regardless of race, had the right to vote in our first democratic elections in 1994. This day reminds us of the sacrifices made for our freedom and the responsibility we carry to uphold democracy.

How Our Library Contributes to This Legacy

The University of Johannesburg Libraries proudly support the continued exploration and understanding of our nation’s history through an extensive collection of:

📖 Print Books & Archives – Explore rare documents, historical accounts, and biographies of key figures in South Africa’s democracy.
📱 E-books & Digital Resources – Access research materials, articles, and e-books that delve into the struggles and victories of our past.
🗣️ Special Exhibits & Discussions – Join us for panel talks, film screenings, and curated displays that reflect on Freedom Day’s significance.

We invite you to visit our library collections to engage with the past and shape a brighter, more informed future.
