NB: Changing our Ebook Central authentication options affects end users because it also changes how users access the Ebook Central Bookshelf.
The ProQuest eBook Central ‘Bookshelf’ is a personal account required to download eBooks and save settings (e.g., Highlighting text). Users usually register for their bookshelf after they authenticate access. However, ProQuest streamlines this process, when the institution uses SSO options like OpenAthens or Shibboleth. The Bookshelf is automatically created and paired with the OpenAthens login. The user doesn’t have to remember a separate login. Once access is activated:
• New ProQuest eBook Central users won’t need to register for a bookshelf manually
• Existing ProQuest eBook Central users won’t be able to login to their old Bookshelf
